Jets' centre Mark Scheifele is in the middle of something different Monday.

Scheifele isn't centring a forward line; he's the marquee name behind a fundraising golf tournament at Niakwa Country Club.

The 22 year old is backing the brand new event in co-operation with KidSport Winnipeg.

KidSport provides registration fees for sports programs for kids under 18 years old who can't afford to take part in sports without financial assistance.

"Giving the opportunity for kids to play … hits the heart big for me," said Scheifele.

"I don't know where I would be if I didn't have sport, you know. I think giving back to something like this is awesome."

The golf tournament caps a busy few days for Scheifele who, along with Jets' goalie Michael Hutchinson, headlined a KidSport Winnipeg fundraising hockey camp over the weekend.
