A 60-year-old has been charged with impaired driving in a crash that killed a 69-year-old woman in Manitoba's Interlake region late last week.
Manitoba RCMP said Tuesday they received a report of a crash on Highway 17 near Road 137 N., about six kilometres south of Fisher Branch, on Friday around 6:45 p.m.
The man was driving a pickup truck south on the highway when he crashed head-on with an SUV, police said.
The 69-year-old woman — who was driving the SUV — was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. A 71-year-old female passenger was taken to hospital, with non-life-threatening injuries.
Both women are from Peguis First Nation, RCMP said.
Police said the man was taken to hospital, where he was arrested for impaired driving causing death. He's been released, pending a future court date.
Fisher Branch is about 140 kilometres north of Winnipeg.
