Investigation unit probes case of man injured in Brandon cruiser
The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba is investigating after a man was hurt while in the custody of a Brandon police officer.
The man, whose age was not released, suffered minor injuries in the incident on Sept. 10, stated a news release from the unit, which investigates serious incidents involving police.
Brandon police said an officer was escorting an intoxicated man to the Brandon Correctional Centre and during the ride, the man hit his head on the interior of the car, which caused a small cut over his left eye. Shortly after, the police car was hit from behind by another police vehicle, the news release said.
The Independent Investigation Unit was notified by the Brandon Police Service on Sept. 12 and has assumed responsibility for the investigation.
The investigation is ongoing, so no further details will be provided at this time, the IIU said.
The officers involved remain on active duty, Brandon police said in a news release Tuesday.
As the investigation is ongoing, the police service also will not comment further.
