Human rights museum still $25M short
Fundraisers for the Canadian Museum for Human Rights said Wednesday they need $25 million to reach their goal of $150 million in private donations.
Fundraisers for the Canadian Museum for Human Rights in Winnipeg said Wednesday they are within reach of their goal of $150 million in private donations, but are still $25 million shy.
The museum, set to open in 2013, will be the country's first national museum outside of the Ottawa region.
Federal, provincial and municipal governments have already committed $160 million, and the federal government will cover operating costs estimated at $21 million a year.
The late media mogul Izzy Asper spearheaded the project, which has been hit by escalating construction costs.
