Wildlife expert says owls live all over our city, often very close to homes
There's a good chance one of your neighbours is an owl and Manitoba Conservation wants you to let them know if you see or hear one.
James Duncan is director of the wildlife branch at Manitoba Conservation and Water Stewardship, and he is also a well-known owl enthusiast.
According to Duncan, many species of owl call Winnipeg home, and, if you take the time to listen, you’ll hear their calls throughout our city.
Duncan is looking for keen-eared Manitobans to take part in the 2015 The Manitoba Nocturnal Owl Survey. Run since 1991, the survey takes place in the last two weeks of March and first two weeks of April.
Participants are given a location and asked to listen for owls between sunset and sunrise, recording information about what they hear.
