Personal information about physicians might have been compromised as a result of hackers getting into the website for the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba.
However, no patient information has been improperly accessed, College registrar Bill Pope stressed.
"There is no patient personal information on that website. We basically felt, out of an abundance of caution, to notify our members that this was a possible happening [for them]," he said.
The College's website will remain offline until an investigation is complete and new security measures are added, Pope said.
Police and the office of the privacy commissoner have been told about the incident.
