Guido Amsel, alleged mail bomber, appears in court to request bail
Amsel is charged with 5 counts of attempted murder and other charges
Guido Amsel, the man accused of sending explosive devices through the mail, appeared in a Winnipeg court on Wednesday to request bail.
He appeared thin, wearing a grey T-shirt, and sat silently. He was seen occasionally looking over to his friends and family seated in court.
Amsel faces five counts of attempted murder plus other charges, including: using explosives with intent to cause bodily harm, possession of an explosive substance, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose and mischief over $5,000.
Winnipeg police allege Amsel targeted three women last summer — two lawyers and his ex-wife — with mail bombs as an act of revenge following a lengthy divorce battle.
Lawyer Maria Mitousis lost her right hand and suffered multiple injuries when a package she was holding exploded.
Earlier this month additional charges were laid against Amsel for a 2013 explosion.
Amsel maintains his innocence on all charges.
He has been in custody since July. In September Amsel applied for bail but was denied.
Amsel will return to court in May.
