Golden Boy visits the Forks

Visitors to the Forks Market in Winnipeg will now get a chance to see Manitoba's famous Golden Boy up close.

Visitors to the Forks Market in Winnipeg will now get a chance to see Manitoba's famous Golden Boy up close.

The statue, which went on display Tuesday, is bright yellow now, but it will soon be getting a new coat of gold in the final stages of the restoration project.

Craig Strike, general manager of the Forks market, says the Golden Boy should be very good for business. "There was over 100,000 people who visited the Golden Boy at the museum," he says, referring to the weeks the statue was at the Manitoba Museum in the spring.

"If those numbers are the same, you know, it's hard to even put a dollar figure on that."

Once the restoration is complete the Golden Boy will be placed back atop the Legislature in time for the Queen's visit in October.
