Freight train derailment near Plumas under investigation
The Canadian Pacific Railway is trying to figure out what caused a train derailment in western Manitoba over the weekend.
Twenty-seven rail cars jumped the tracks at around 10:30 p.m. Saturday near Plumas, Man., roughly 200 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg.
Of the 27 cars involved, 22 were carrying grain, three were transporting potash and two were empty, a CP spokesperson confirmed to CBC News.
No injuries were reported, and the derailment posed no threat to public safety, the spokesperson said.
Crews worked through the night to clean up the derailment, and trains are being rerouted until the track is repaired and inspected.
The derailment is under investigation by CP and the federal Transportation Safety Board.
The company spokesperson said it's too early to say what may have caused it.
