Fred Penner to be inducted into Western Canadian Music Awards hall of fame
Fred Penner's songs about cats and sandwiches have been part of our culture for years, and now the Manitoba singer will be honoured by western Canada's music industry next week.
Penner will be inducted into the Hall of Fame at the Western Canadian Music Awards on Oct. 5.
On Wednesday, he learned he's also up for a Canadian Folk Music Award. His latest album, Where In The World, has been nominated for children's album of the year.

His previous honours include the Order of Canada, the Golden Jubilee Medal, the Diamond Jubilee Medal, the Order of Manitoba, multiple Juno awards and numerous other music awards.
Penner's career as a family entertainer dates back to the late 1970s and today he's known on several continents for songs that delight children and children-at-heart alike.
He is also known for his children's show, Fred Penner's Place, which ran from 1985 to 1997 on CBC Television.
