The city will continue with spraying for forest tent caterpillars Wednesday, which got underway about a week ago.

Weather permitting, the city says it will spray in the following areas:

  • Garden City
  • Leila - McPhillips Triangle
  • Margaret Park
  • Templeton - Sinclair

Spraying will occur daily from 9:30 p.m. to 6 a.m., weather permitting.

The city won't spray if it rains too much or winds pick up to more than 20 kilometres an hour.

The city sprays a biological, organic product called Btk, directly onto the foliage of the trees.

When the insects ingest the product, they stop feeding and die within two or three days.

The city says buffer zones will be respected and residents can apply to exempt their property with the city's insect control branch, but it takes 72 hours to process those requests.
