As evening fell in Winnipeg on Sunday, a small leprechaun stood at the doors of the city's Soul Sanctuary.

"If you kiss that stone right there, you'll have the gift of the gab forever," he said, pointing to a stone on the ground.

"Believe me … you'll never be able to shut up."

It was only the beginning of the Irish Pavilion's entertainment for the evening, which also included food, dancing, music and bright, intricate costumes.

And for the next two weeks, Ireland is one of many world destinations those in Winnipeg may visit without even stepping on a plane — Sunday marked the first day of Folklorama's 47th year in the city.

Brazil's pavilion also featured dancers, drummers, food and music.

In the next two weeks, organizers say more than 45 pavilions will open their doors to the public, giving people a chance to educate themselves about other cultures.
