Fires damage 4 homes in Winnipeg's North End
Emergency crews scrambled Thursday morning when fires broke out, minutes apart, at four neighbouring Winnipeg homes.
A total of 71 emergency personnel — fire and ambulance — responded to the scene above, in addition to several police officers.
Everyone in the homes made it out safely before fire crews arrived.
Some pets were recovered from the homes but there was no status on their condition, a spokesperson for the city said.
Police are still investigating the causes of the fires.
"It seemed like somebody was, well, lighting up the North End. It's our belief [it was arson] and if I was talking to other firefighters, they'd be coming up with the same thing," said firefighter Robert Campbell.
"I was talking to a couple of the guys, I just looked at them today, and they were almost befuddled of what to do next, because it just seemed like everything was burning around them. They had a number of houses that they had to contain, and the crews were coming in from all over.
"[But] at the end of the day, you kind of take a deep breath and say, 'Well, wasn't that a crazy night.' But we've seen that before many times, and it's just the nature of the beast."
