Extremely cold temperatures in parts of Manitoba could last several days

An Arctic air mass is expected to bring very cold temperatures to several parts of the Westman region and northern Manitoba beginning Thursday and lasting into the weekend, Environment Canada says.

More extreme winter weather is on the way for much of western Manitoba, Environment Canada says.

An Arctic air mass is expected to bring very cold temperatures to several parts of the Westman region and northern Manitoba beginning Thursday and lasting into the weekend, the weather agency said in an extreme cold warning issued Thursday afternoon.

Residents could see overnight lows of –30 C or colder. Combined with the wind chill, it could feel like –40 to –50 C in some areas, according to Environment Canada. 

The extremely cold temperatures are expected to ease up by Monday morning.

The weather warning is in effect for: 

  • Brandon, Neepawa, Carberry, Treherne.
  • Brochet.
  • Dauphin, Russell, Roblin, Winnipegosis.
  • Killarney, Pilot Mound, Manitou.
  • Lynn Lake, Leaf Rapids, Pukatawagan.
  • Melita, Boissevain, Turtle Mountain Provincial Park.
  • Minnedosa, Riding Mountain National Park.
  • Tadoule Lake. 
  • Virden, Souris.
