4 more deaths, 167 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Manitoba over last 2 days

There are four more deaths and 167 new cases of COVID-19 in Manitoba.

The data is total numbers from Monday (71) and Tuesday (96). There was no announcement made Monday due to the Louis Riel Day holiday.

The province's seven-day average number of cases is 82. 

The four deaths, all from the Winnipeg health region, are three men — one in his 60s, one in his 70s and one in his 90s — and a woman in her 90s.

The man in his 70s was linked to the outbreak at St. Boniface Hospital Unit B5.

Dr. Brent Roussin, Manitoba's chief public health officer, said Tuesday the province must continue to follow COVID-19 fundamentals, especially as Canada identifies more cases of coronavirus variants of concern.

The total number of COVID-related deaths in Manitoba since the pandemic began is now 875.

The majority of the 167 cases are in the Northern Health Region, which has 93.

The Winnipeg health region has 51, the Interlake-Eastern health region has 13, the Southern Health region has eight and the Prairie Mountain Health region has two new cases.

The current five-day COVID-19 test positivity rate is up to 5.9 per cent provincially and 4.5 per cent in Winnipeg.

That's an increase from 5.2 per cent and 3.9 per cent, respectively, on Sunday.
