Two Winnipeg city councillors want to install closed-circuit cameras in the city to catch people illegally dumping garbage.
Coun. Ross Eadie and Coun. Devi Sharma tabled a motion at Wednesday morning's city council meeting to have the city look into how much a program like that would cost.
The councillors said illegal dumping is on the rise in Winnipeg, and charges against dumpers are extremely difficult to lay without visual evidence.
The motion calls for the city to cost-out a two-year pilot program that would see CCTV cameras installed.
The motion didn't say how many cameras are being proposed or where they would be installed.
