3 dead after minivan, semi collide on Trans-Canada Highway near Portage la Prairie

Three people are dead, including boys aged 10 and 13, after a minivan they were in collided with a semi on the Trans-Canada Highway just outside of Portage la Prairie.
RCMP say the eastbound minivan was trying to make a left turn to head north on Highway 16 around 1:15 p.m. when it collided with a westbound semi.
There were five people in the van, all from Carberry, Man.
Two were pronounced dead at the scene, a 13-year-old boy and a 36-year-old man. A 10-year-old boy was taken to hospital, but later died.
The driver, a 35-year-old woman, and an eight-year-old boy remain in hospital in critical but stable condition.

The semi driver, a 62-year-old Ontario man, sustained minor injuries.
RCMP say everyone was wearing seatbelts and alcohol is not a factor. Traffic was delayed in the area as as RCMP investigated.
Police initially said a 35-year-old man and a four-year-old boy were among the three killed after the crash. In fact, the boy was 10 years old and the man was 36. They also said the injured woman was 36 years old and the injured boy was nine. However, they later corrected their statement to say the woman was 35 and the injured boy was eight.
