The annual — and colourful — Run with the Chiefs is afoot in Winnipeg's Point Douglas neighbourhood, and it's the final time for one of those chiefs.

The fun run, featuring police Chief Devon Clunis and Manitoba NDP MLA Kevin Chief, kicked off at 9 a.m. on the grounds of Norquay School at Euclid and Lusted avenues.

Hundreds of school children are running with the chiefs, school staff and other people from the neighbourhood "to create and strengthen relationships" and build a better, stronger and safer community for everyone, states a news release about the event.

More than 300 runners in total are expected to participate.

It will be the last one for Clunis, who is set to retire at the start of next month.
