CBC host gives stand-up paddleboarding a shot

Stand up paddle boarding (SUP) is taking off in Manitoba. For the past three years the sport, which combines surfing and kayak skills, has grown into one of the most popular paddle-sports in our province.

Stand up paddle boarding (SUP) is taking off in Manitoba. For the past three years the sport, which combines surfing and kayak skills, has grown into one of the most popular paddle-sports in our province.

Courses in Manitoba are booked solid until August says Brad Friesen of Wilderness Supply. Luckily Information Radio's Marcy Markusa made a video (above) of Friesen demonstrating some of the basics, and talking about the history of the sport at Fort Whyte Alive. 

Friesen also gave the radio host a lesson.

If you would like to see seasoned stand-up paddleboarders in action the annual Coney Island Challenge, which pits competitors against each other around a nine-kilometre course on Lake of the Woods, takes place this weekend in Kenora, Ont..
