Winnipeg teen hockey star Carson Lambos, chosen second overall, was among three Winnipeggers from the same team selected in the Western Hockey League first-round draft Thursday.

The Kootenay Ice drafted Lambos. The 15-year-old, six-foot, 190-pound defenceman is currently the captain of the Bantam Prep team at Winnipeg's Rink Hockey Academy.

Goalie Tyler Brennan was picked 21st overall by the Prince George Cougars. He plays for the same team as Lambos and has registered a 1.52 goals against average, 0.946 save percentage and five shutouts this season.

The Moose Jaw Warriors selected Eric Alarie 22nd in the first round. The forward also currently plays for the Bantam Prep team at Rink Hockey Academy, where he's put up 28 goals and 27 assists in 30 games this season.

Lambos follows in the WHL footsteps of his brother, Jonathon Lambos, who plays for the junior league's Brandon Wheat Kings.

Carson Lambos is currently captain of his team and has been praised for his leadership and on-ice expertise. He has also attracted attention from American hockey scouts and has said he hopes to one day play in the National Hockey League.

The Kootenay Ice are based in Cranbrook, B.C., about 210 kilometres southwest of Calgary.

Lambos tweeted out thanks to his family, coaches and teammates shortly after the announcement.
