Candice Bergen tweets embarrassment with Justin Trudeau

Portage-Lisgar MP Candice Bergen issued a few tweets Monday expressing her sense of embarrasment with the prime minister. Trudeau maintains he will withdraw warplanes from the fight against ISIS and remains committed to bringing 25,000 refugees to Canada from Syria by the end of 2015.

Minutes after posting a photo of herself being sworn in as Member of Parliament for the Portage-Lisgar riding in southern Manitoba, Candice Bergen issued a few tweets Monday expressing her sense of embarrassment with the prime minister.

In the wake of attacks in Paris that ended with 129 dead and dozens more seriously injured, Justin Trudeau said he remains committed to withdrawing warplanes from the fight against ISIS and to bringing 25,000 refugees to Canada from Syria by the end of 2015.

The tweets from Bergen prompted backlash, and some support, from people on Twitter, namely because she recently said she believes engagement with opposition party members should be done in a respectful way.

In October, Bergen announced on CBC's Up to Speed she was in the running to be the interim leader of the Conservative Party of Canada.

"Canadians are looking to us to be a strong opposition, to stay true to our Conservative values, principles, to good strong fiscal policy, to holding Justin Trudeau and the ... new Liberal government to account," she said Oct. 27.

"That's something that I'm committed to doing, and at the same time being a strong and effective communicator, asking the tough questions, but asking them in a respectful and a reasonable way."

That position has since been filled by Rona Ambrose.
