Police chase through Brandon neighbourhood hits 90 km/h
Brandon man arrested after vehicle stopped at Lorne Avenue near 3rd Street
A Brandon man was arrested after a police chase reached speeds of 90 km/h in a residential area on Tuesday evening.
An officer stopped in traffic at about 9:20 p.m. Tuesday noticed a westbound vehicle travelling fast at Eighth Street and Victoria Avenue, near the city's police station.
A vehicle in the intersection was damaged after the driver steered between two others stopped at the red light, police said Wednesday.
The vehicle drove through the red light and turned onto 10th Street and then east onto Lorne Avenue.
Officers tried to pull it over, but it kept going on Lorne Avenue and ran stop signs at Ninth, Eighth and Sixth streets, at times reaching speeds of 90 km/h, police said.
The vehicle stopped a short time later on Lorne Avenue, near Third Street.
A 23-year-old Brandon man was arrested and charged with flight from police, careless driving and failing to remain at the scene of an accident.
The man was to be released from jail after a mental health assessment and is expected in court in July, police said.
