Police investigate 9-year-old boy's death in Rushing River Provincial Park
Officers searched the Ontario park for a missing boy, but he was found dead
Police are investigating after a nine-year-old boy was found dead in Rushing River Provincial Park, east of Kenora, Ont.
Officers conducted an extensive search of the park with assistance from the canine unit, Emergency Response Team, park staff and the Kenora Marine and Trails Unit, but the boy was found dead.
OPP Staff Sgt. Jeffrey Duggan said no foul play is suspected at this point but the investigation is ongoing.
"It is May long weekend and there is increased activity at all provincial parks, waterways and on the highway. Unfortunately, incidents like this do happen and, nonetheless, they have to be investigated and followed up."
Duggan could not say where the boy was from, but said he was not from Ontario.
An autopsy is being scheduled for early this week.
A very small section of the park is closed on Sunday while police continue the investigation.
Anyone with information is asked to call OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
