Bombers ready even if new stadium is not
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers football club has a plan, in case a new stadium, still under construction, is not ready in time for the team.
Construction delays have put the new stadium behind schedule, but Garth Buchko is not worried.
"Our Plan B: to play at Canad Inns, 'til the stadium is ready," the head of the CFL franchise in Winnipeg said, referring to the old facility that had been home for the club.
"We do have a Plan B, and that's the prudent thing to do in any business," Buchko added. "Just in case things don't work out the way we want them to."
Season ticket holder Dan LeBlanc doesn't mind the possible change in venue.
"I think it will be really nice to go to the old stadium for one last summer hurrah," he said.
The Bombers are also promising that season ticket holders will receive compensation for games played at the old stadium, being the difference in price for the more expensive seat in the new facility.
Bombers' fan Kaitie Gray said no matter what, the wait to get into the new stadium will have been worthwhile.
"Great things take time," she said.
An overview on the status of construction is expected May 1.
The construction delays for the new stadium, at the University of Manitoba, have been blamed on wind.
