Big Cat Week comes on the heels of the July 29 annual conservation awareness celebration of Global Tiger Day.

Winnipeg's zoo is home to cougars, Canadian lynx, ocelots, lions, tigers and snow leopards.

Janaye Zacharias, an attendant at the zoo, said the week-long event is meant to get people more invested in the lives of big cats around the world.

"The more that we can spread the word and get people to get excited for big cats and tigers, and the more we can raise funds for them to protect them out in the wild ... the better it will be for these animals," said Zacharias.

Big Cat Week runs until Aug. 9, with special activities — like watching cougars feeding — held daily.
