Becoming BanksyΒ purports to answer the age old question haunting civilization for millennia β who is Banksy?
The answer may shake you to your very core. Or not. But it's got a really strong structure, plenty of laughs, and memorable dialogue.
David Michaels as Michael Banks, aka not the real Banksy, is pathetically hilarious as a soon-to-be divorced, Mary Kay salesperson, who dreams of becoming a successful landscape artist,Β an accomplishment "guaranteed to dry up a woman's twat."
Jamil Chokachi plays the dozens of supporting roles that appear in this New York tale of art fraud and identity theft. He produces a virtuoso performance. Playing Banksy's estranged wife, with only a swishy scarf to signify gender, he convinced me to suspend all disbelief and I fell completely into the pathos of the scene.
The "surprise" ending may not knock your socks off butΒ Becoming BanksyΒ certainly leaves its mark.
