Author McCracken dead at age 61

Winnipeg writer Melinda McCracken has died.

Winnipeg writer Melinda McCracken has died.

McCracken wrote the books Memories Are Made of This: Growing Up in Winnipeg in the Fifites, Study in Gray: Women Writing about Depression, and Winnipeg 8: The Icecold Hothouse, among others.

She also wrote articles for magazines, including Chatelaine, Maclean's and Rolling Stone, and was an arts editor for the Globe and Mail.

McCracken was recently nominated for a Manitoba Blizzard Award for her video short Big Deal.

She was working on a book about the history of the Lake of the Woods.

Melinda McCracken was 61.
