A man has been arrested and charged in connection with an incident on Tuesday in which a man and his grandson were accosted by a man who later tried to grab the boy, 8.

Winnipeg police said the man, 65, was walking down his apartment stairwell with his grandson, on Booth Drive at about 6:15 p.m. when a man walking up the stairwell asked them for the time. When the victims didn't reply, the man started swearing at them and chased them into the building's basement.

The man then threatened the victims and tried to grab the boy, police said Tuesday, but the pair escaped unhurt to a nearby parking lot.

Police said Thursday they arrested a suspect, 23, on Wednesday who now faces charges of uttering threats and abduction of a person under 14.
