The gallery on the second and third floor, the main floor restaurant and the event space will all be updated. The facility will also receive new roofing, upgraded mechanical systems and insulation.
"The Pavilion is a treasured, iconic building in Winnipeg, and these upgrades will ensure that it can continue to serve its role in Assiniboine Park for many years to come," said Don Peterkin, COO of the Assiniboine Park Conservancy, in a media release. "By closing the galleries to the public, it will allow us to complete the renovations within a few months and have the building reopened in time for the busy summer season."
The renovations are expected to cost $2 million and be completed in late spring, when there will be a grand reopening. The visitor services area and bathrooms on the main floor will be open to the public during renovations.
The renovations are part of Assiniboine Park's $200-million redevelopment plan, which was unveiled in 2009.
