Percy, a six-month-old Border Collie-Jack Russell Terrier cross, was flown into Winnipeg Monday.

Jessica Hansen, executive director for Manitoba Rescue Dogs, said Percy was apprehended after a neighbour of the owner discovered he had been abused by the owner’s child.

“The pain that he was in when the incident happened, I don't even want to imagine what it was like for him,” said Hansen.

Hansen said Percy has lost some vision, but because of the clouding in his eyes they’re not yet sure how severe the damage is, or whether his vision will ever be what it once was.

On any given day, Manitoba Underdog Rescue has around 30 dogs in its care at once.

Hansen said Percy is undergoing medical care and could need surgery. He’s currently relying on his nose and ears to help him get around.

And not long from now, Percy will need a new home.

“He's a super cuddly boy,” said Hansen. “He pretty much loves everybody and just wants to be in your lap, so he would be great for pretty much any home I think.”

Once Percy has been rehabilitated, Manitoba Underdog Rescue will be putting him up for adoption.
