2 men in critical condition after shooting at Stradbrook and Donald
Police responded to the area after reports of gunshots
Two men are in critical condition after a shooting in Winnipeg near Stradbrook Avenue and Donald Street early Saturday morning.
Officers responded to the area around 3 a.m. after reports of gunshots.
"Responding officers discovered two males suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds," said Winnipeg police spokesman Const. Rob Carver.
The men were brought to hospital.
"I think it's concerning. It's one of the most concerning things a city can have. We have the potential of shots fired in a public area," Carver said.
"We don't have any preliminary indication that this was random," he added.
Stradbrook is closed eastbound from Scott Street while police continue their investigation. Donald is closed from the south at McMillan Avenue and from River Avenue to the north, police said.
Police are asking people to avoid the area.
"I woke up to a couple pops and that was it. You don't really see that around here," he said, adding that it's usually a quiet neighbourhood.
"I just went back to bed I didn't think anything of it."
When he found it was gunshots, Keeper said he was a bit surprised.
"For sure it was gunshots it was popping sounds and all that. [But] I thought it was just an accident," he said.
Police are currently onscene at a serious occurrence at Donald Street and Stradbrook. Police are requesting the public avoid this area
