'They had hearts made of pure gold': Men dead in double homicide remembered as generous
Jody Brown, 43, and Steven Chevrefils, 35, were found dead in St-Georges Tuesday
The two men found dead in a double homicide in a small Manitoba community had good hearts, their friend says.
"They always made sure that we were taken care of. They always made sure they were there for us," said Crystal Fontaine.
Jody Brown, 43, and Steven Chevrefils, 35, were found dead early Tuesday morning in the St-Georges home they lived in together.
Fontaine said she saw Brown only two days before and is struggling to come to terms with his death.
"I feel like it's not real. I feel like I could just call Jody and he would answer, but that's not going to happen," she said.
She also saw Chevrefils about a week before at his parent's home.
"I just want people to know that Jody and Steve, they had hearts made of pure gold. They made sure their friends were well taken care of," Fontaine said holding back tears.
The death of the two men has shocked the community of about 100. People described the pair as good friends who were from the area.
"It's a very sad, sad day," Raymond Garand, reeve of the Rural Municipality of Alexander, told CBC News on Tuesday.
Garand said both men worked "odd and ends" in the community and both men had children.
RCMP have not released many details, only saying there is no public safety threat to the community.
St-Georges is located 100 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg, near Pine Falls-Powerview, Man.
