11 Winnipeg locations where you can recycle your Christmas tree
Real Christmas trees, minus decorations, tinsel, bags and stands, can be recycled at depots around the city
If you're looking for a way to give to the environment as the holiday season comes to a close, here's your chance.
The City of Winnipeg has set up 11 locations where people can drop off their real Christmas trees to be recycled. The locations, which the city is calling Let's Chip In depots, are open between Dec. 27 and Jan 20.
If you stop by to drop off your tree, you can also help yourself to free wood chips, as long as you bring your own container, the city said.
People planning to recycle are asked to remove plastic tree bags, tinsel, decorations and tree stands, and the city is reminding Winnipeggers that trees placed at the curb next to recycling or garbage carts will not be collected.
Last year, this initiative prevented 12,841 trees from ending up in landfills.
