Ontario Provincial Police in Wellington have recovered the body of a 20-year-old man who dove underwater at the Elora Quarry on Sunday and didn't resurface.

OPP responded to reports of a possible drowning at the Elora Quarry at around 4:45 p.m.

The Centre Wellington Fire Rescue and Guelph-Wellington Paramedic Service also responded to the scene, but couldn't find the individual.

It was the OPP's Underwater Search and Recovery Unit that later recovered the man's body.

"We are aware that the park was closed at that time," Wellington County OPP Const. Joshua Cunningham.

Cunningham said the man was with a small group of friends in the quarry area at the time, and that he had been swimming when he went under.

"We want to remind everybody that despite the nicer weather, the waterways in Ontario can still remain quite frigid and cold, making it difficult for even those who believe they're experienced swimmers, to swim safely," Cunningham said.

Police say their investigation is ongoing.
