67 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Waterloo region Sunday

Region of Waterloo Public Health reported 67 new cases of COVID-19 in the community on Sunday.

There are 361 active cases in the region with 12 people listed as being in hospital

Region of Waterloo Public Health reported 67 new cases of COVID-19 in the community on Sunday, five more than the 62 cases reported the previous day.

The new cases on Sunday bring the total for the weekend to 129, and the total since March to 2,706. The area will move into the orange, or restrict, level of Ontario's COVID-19 framework on Monday which brings new restrictions.

There are 361 active cases in the region with 12 people listed as being in hospital. The number of COVID-related deaths remains unchanged at 121.

26 active outbreaks

There are 26 active outbreaks in Waterloo region. They include:

  • Two in long-term care and retirement homes.
  • Three outbreaks in congregate settings.
  • 14 workplace, facility or business settings.
  • One college or university outbreak.
  • Two school outbreaks
  • One outbreak at a before-and-after school program

On Sunday Ontario reported 1,248 new cases of COVID-19. This was 333 less than Saturday's record high of 1,581 new cases.

A total of 29 new deaths were recorded in Ontario on Sunday while 20 were recorded on Saturday.
