Sixty-five per cent of people aged 12 and up have now been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in Waterloo region.

That's up from Friday's numbers, when the region reported 62.82 per cent of people aged 12 and up had been fully vaccinated.

That news comes a day after the lowest number of vaccines were given since May, with 3,047 doses administered on Sunday. The lowest day prior to Sunday was May 24 with 2,662.

The region reports 81.43 per cent of people have had their first dose of the vaccine.

Officials in Waterloo region have said they may start winding down mass vaccination sites in the near future. Shirley Hilton, deputy chief with the Waterloo Regional Police Service and head of the region's vaccine distribution task force, says they will evaluate this week whether the clinics are busy enough to warrant keeping them open.

"We will continue to focus on second doses as quickly as possible. As more residents receive their second doses, we will begin to ramp down clinics while increasing opportunities for mobile vaccine options," she said during a media briefing on Friday.

The region is now offering walk-in appointments for both first and second doses. As well, a vaccination bus is going to high-priority neighbourhoods to offer people the shot or answer questions.
