Hundreds gather at Kitchener City Hall for Vimy Ridge ceremony

To mark the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge, hundreds gathered outside of Kitchener City Hall on Saturday to remember those who were lost in the battle.

Flags were at half-mast at Kitchener City Hall on Sunday as hundreds gathered outside to remember those who fought and died at the Battle of Vimy Ridge.

Sunday marked the 100th anniversary of the battle.

The ceremony kicked off at 2:00 p.m. in Victoria Park where the region's cadet corps, members from the Waterloo Regional Police and members of Kitchener's fire department gathered and marched towards Kitchener City Hall.

Names of local soldiers who died in battle were read aloud during the ceremony, and Kitchener Mayor Berry Vrbanovic, Waterloo Mayor Dave Jaworsky and regional chair Ken Seiling placed a wreath on behalf of the region.
