A vigil was held in Victoria Park Thursday evening in honour of the Indigenous children whose remains were detected at the former Kamloops Indian Residential School.
The Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc First Nation said last Thursday preliminary findings from a survey of the grounds of the former school, conducted by a specialist in ground-penetrating radar, indicated that the remains of around 215 children were on site.
In Kitchener, hundreds of people showed up to show their respect and call for change.
Support is available for anyone affected by their experience at residential schools, and those who are triggered by the latest reports.
A national Indian Residential School Crisis Line has been set up to provide support for former students and those affected. People can access emotional and crisis referral services by calling the 24-hour national crisis line: 1-866-925-4419.
