Woman, 18, died at University of Waterloo residence Thursday
Waterloo Regional Police don't believe foul play was involved after an 18-year-old woman died Thursday at a University of Waterloo student residence.
Police were called about a sudden death around 3:30 p.m. to a residence on Seagram Drive and found the woman in her dorm room.
According to Ins. Michael Haffner, when emergency responders arrived, there were concerns over chemical exposure due to vapours. The residence floor was evacuated to protect both students and responders, until hazardous material investigators determined it was safe to proceed.
"We are deeply saddened by the death of one of our students and express our heartfelt condolences to the student's family and friends. We are respecting the family's wish for privacy and will not be commenting further," said Carleen Carroll, associate vice-president, communications, in a statement emailed to CBC News.
The coroner is doing a post-mortem Friday.
Police say next of kin have been notified.
