Man arrested after commemorative plaques stolen in Cambridge, Kitchener

Police say a 52-year-old man faces charges after commemorative plaques were stolen in Cambridge and Kitchener.

A 52-year-old Kitchener, Ont., man faces charges after police recovered commemorative bronze plaques that had been stolen in Cambridge and Kitchener.

On Oct. 30, a local business turned over several metal memorial plaques to officers that police say the business believed had been stolen.

Police determined the seven copper memorial plaques had been taken off benches at the Victoria Park Tennis Club in Cambridge.

On Wednesday, the man was arrested in Cambridge. Police also seized an additional plaque that the man had in his possession and belonged to the City of Kitchener.

The man faces charges of:

  • Two counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000.
  • Trafficking in stolen goods under $5,000.
