Stephen Jackson (Tayo Bero/ CBC )

Stephen Jackson is an active resident of Waterloo region, and Kitchener-Waterloo's local Indigenous community.

He's also the first community co-host to join CBC K-W's Craig Norris on The Morning Edition this year.

His organization, Anishnabeg Outreach, provides culturally relevant services to Indigenous residents, including employment and training services.

Now, the group is partnering with Waterloo region to create the area's first ever Indigenous-led child and family centre.

Jackson says he is thrilled to be a part of the CBC K-W community co-host initiative, because it gives him a chance to bring his own unique perspectives to ongoing news stories, and also shed light on some issues important to the local Indigenous communities.

"It's an opportunity to provide voice for Indigenous people and Indigenous issues," he told CBC K-W.

Jackson will sit in the co-host chair this Friday, Jan 18 from 7 a.m. onward.
