Flurries are on the way for areas of Waterloo region and northern Wellington County, as Environment Canada issued a snow squall watch Tuesday morning.

Snowfall amounts of up to 10 to 20 cm are possible today with the worst conditions expected for late afternoon and evening.

"Heavy flurries will start later this morning and last through tonight," Environment Canada said in a release, adding lake effect snow today could stretch into early Wednesday morning.

Snow squalls could also cause weather conditions to vary from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres, Environment Canada said.

Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Drivers should be prepared for hazardous winter driving.
