Families in the Waterloo Region District School Board now have more time to decide their mode of learning for the upcoming school year.

The board said in a statement this decision came following an announcement from Ontario Minister of Education Stephen Lecce.

Lecce said parents, caregivers and students will not be asked to make a decision on in-person or remote learning before June 1.

Families in the Waterloo public board had previously been asked to decide by Monday.

"WRDSB staff are reviewing the implications of this recent announcement and direction on the results of the request for remote learning survey that families completed on May 3rd," said the board in a statement.

The board said further details will be provided in the days to come.
