Four more people have been charged in a shooting that sent three people to hospital in April in Kitchener, Ont.

Two men and two women were arrested at a home on Overlea Drive for weapon and drug-related offences, said Waterloo Regional Police on Wednesday afternoon.

That brings the total arrested in connection with April 22 shooting to six, said Const. Ashley Dietrich.

A Brampton male and a Milton male were previously arrested.

The four others are all from Kitchener:

  • A man, 19.
  • A woman, 21.
  • A man, 22.
  • A woman, 51.

The four were charged with 26 gun and drugs offences. The charges included possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition, possession of suspected psilocybin for the purposes of trafficking, firearms trafficking and aggravated assault. The full list of charges can be found at the bottom of this article.

Police have called the shooting a targeted incident connected to a home invasion, and said there is no risk to public safety.

Waterloo region police had alerted the public to stay clear of the area Wednesday afternoon due to heavy police presence.

Quick action

Garett Furber was just leaving his place to get a coffee and saw the arrest go down.

"I saw an undercover SUV start putting his lights on, and all of a sudden three or four police officers came, a white van came and then SWAT came, and asked people to come out of the house — it was pretty quick, no issues."

He said he saw an older woman, a younger woman and a young man come out of the townhouse.

"There's a lot of kids and a lot neighbours concerned in the area, so it's always good to see some action," said Furber, who has lived in the neighbourhood for 30 years.

"Let's just hope it gets all solved."
