It's that time of year again. The region is buzzing with holiday markets and there are festive decorations lighting up the streets. But not everyone in Waterloo region is filled with a sense of hope this holiday season.
We here at CBC Kitchener-Waterloo had an incredible kick-off to our Sounds of the Season event on Friday, Dec. 1. The Morning Edition host Craig Norris led us through a morning of giving, filled with musical performances by local musicians and heart-warming stories of need on CBC Radio One 89.1 FM,
The annual charity drive supports The Food Bank of Waterloo Region who serve more than 100 local agencies and programs that provide nutrition education, counselling, employment skills and shelter in addition to much needed food items.
Donations to CBC Ontario's Sounds of the Season can be made at the CBC Kitchener-Waterloo studio at 117 King St. West, online or by phone at 416-203-0050.
We raised more than $1,500 during our kick-off event and we want to keep the momentum going! Make a donation and use the hashtag #CBCSOTSONT to join the conversation on Twitter.
This year's performers
We are excited to announce the lineup for Sounds of the Season.
Ambre McLean – her new album is My Heart – will be our house musician for the whole show. Learn more on her Facebook page.
Rick Guzik will be back with his accordion! Last year, Rick played people into and out of the event and performed during breaks. We're thrilled he's going to be joining us again.
Blue Sky Singers is a group of First Nations singers who are strong and active in their Indigenous community. Visit their Facebook page.
Twin City Harmonizers are returning with their barbershop-style of music. They also have Christmas shows on Dec. 2 and 3 – you can find out more on their website.
Each year we have chefs who join us for food columnist Andrew Coppolino's segment and this year, we're excited to have Jody and Kirstie from The Culinary Studio join us and whip up a dish for the audience to sample.
For those needing their caffeine fix that morning, our friends Phong and Dawn at Matter of Taste will be serving up espresso-based drinks.
Our thanks to the staff at TheMuseum for once again donating the space for this annual event.
