One dead, two injured after shooting in Kitchener early Sunday morning: WRPS
There will be an increased police presence on Windale Crescent as officers investigate
A man is dead and two others were injured after a shooting in the south end of Kitchener early Sunday morning, police say.
Waterloo regional police say officers were called to Windale Crescent around 4:15 a.m. Sunday after receiving reports of shots fired.
When they arrived on-scene, police found one man dead and two other men with non-life threatening injuries.
"The initial determination based on the witness information and people who we spoke to directly at the scene led us to believe that this is a targeted, focused incident and that everyone involved were known to each other," said Insp. Mark Crowell.
Police say they will have an increased presence on Windale Crescent as officers canvass nearby homes for information, video surveillance and dashcam footage.
The incident marks the 20th shooting and fifth homicide in the region so far this year, Crowell said.
Police are continuing to explore whether there are any connections between this shooting and gun, gang or drug activity, Crowell said.
Although Crowell said there is no present risk to public safety, he said residents should remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to police.
Those with information about the incident are urged to contact police or CrimeStoppers.
