No arrests or charges laid against protesters at Trudeau campaign event: WRPS

The Waterloo Regional Police Service says no one has been arrested or charged in connection to a weekend protest outside a Liberal campaign event in Cambridge, Ont.

Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau was forced to delay his appearance by an hour Sunday due to the protest.  People shouted obscenities and uttered death threats against Trudeau, and hurled racist and misogynist insults at people of colour and women in his protective detail.

Regional police estimate between 150 and 200 people showed up to protest.

"During the protest, an individual was removed from the property for trespassing, however, no arrests or charges were laid in connection to the incident," police said in a media release.

An angry crowd of protesters delayed a campaign stop for Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau in Ontario, days after a rally was cancelled over security concerns. Disagreements on the campaign trail aren’t uncommon, but political watchers say these events have reached a new level of nastiness.

The Sunday protest marked the second time in less than a week that a Liberal campaign event was disrupted. On Friday, a rally in Bolton, Ont. was cancelled when angry protesters showed up.
