Mayors Tory, Vrbanovic, Jaworsky and Craig in Silicon Valley
Mayors from Waterloo Region, including Kitchener Mayor Berry Vrbanovic, Cambridge Mayor Doug Craig and Waterloo Mayor Dave Jaworsky, joined Toronto Mayor John Tory in California this week, promoting business opportunities north of the border.
However, the serious business of networking didn't stop the mayors from having a little fun while touring tech giants and shaking hands with the Golden State's best and brightest.
Tory promoted the idea of an innovation corridor Tuesday at the CityAge conference.
"The Toronto-Waterloo corridor is a place where technology is able to naturally intersect with finance, with healthcare, with mining and educating, construction and food processing and agriculture," Tory said in his remarks.
"That means we're producing startups and innovations that have implications from a variety of fields, and can draw talent with the promise they can be part of a burgeoning tech scene, giving them options rather than a one-off job offer," he said.
Tory invited those in the audience to visit Toronto and Waterloo Region "as an investor, as a partner, a founder or even a tourist."
"Come to help us build and scale our companies, and build your career in a truly great place to live," he said.
