Fatal shooting of Cambridge's Kurt McKechnie remains unsolved two years later
Four people were seen leaving the area in an SUV at the time of the shooting, police say
Kurt McKechnie, 56, was fatally shot outside a Cambridge home two years ago and his murder remains unsolved, the Waterloo Regional Police Service says.
Police were called to Southwood Drive just before 6:30 a.m. on Jan. 31, 2019 and found McKechnie with serious injuries after being shot. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
"Four people were seen leaving the area in a SUV at the time of the incident. Police continue to seek the public's assistance in identifying those individuals," police said in a release on Sunday, the two-year anniversary of his death.
"Police believe the victim and the suspects are known to each other and that this was a targeted incident."
Anyone with information is asked to call investigators at 519-570-9777 extension 8191 or leave an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
A year after McKechnie's death, childhood friend Harold Smith told CBC K-W he continues to regularly post about his friend's death because "somebody knows something" and McKechnie's family has a right to know.
"His mom and his brother need some type of closure," Smith said.
