Food, fun on the menu at this year's Kitchener-Waterloo multicultural festival
Festival highlights excellence that exists in Waterloo region, says organizer
Kitchener-Waterloo's diverse communities will come out to Victoria Park to showcase their cultures this weekend, at the annual Kitchener-Waterloo multicultural festival.
Now in its 52nd year, the weekend-long event brings together artists, performers, vendors and community members for two days of food, performances and other activities.
"It is an opportunity for all the various communities in Kitchener to come together and share their cultures with each other," says Keith Summers, marketing and communications manager for the Kitchener-Waterloo Multicultural Centre.
He says the usual roster has changed and evolved over the years to now include newer communities to the Kitchener-Waterloo area.
This includes student groups coming from the universities in the area, as well as local First Nations groups such as Natalie Martin and the Sarcastic Onions who will be performing this weekend.
Summers says this year is particularly exciting because they have more local professional performers than they have had in previous years.
"It means that we're highlighting the excellence that exists in this community," he said. "And it's an opportunity for them to showcase their own talents back to their neighbours."
